The Politics of the Body

My current research is on the politics of the body, especially in relation to sexual violence and sex work.

At present I am writing about sexual violence and social class - how the cultural politics of class, often played out through bodies, interacts with experiences of and attitudes towards sexual assault and rape. I am also undertaking an analysis of national sexual violence policy from an embodied perspective, asking questions about how violent and victimised bodies are produced through policy narratives and how this defines the kinds of policy interventions which are possible.

Future plans include a national prevalence study of sexual violence against students (following pilot work in the local area), a mapping exercise of the commercial sex market in Brighton & Hove, and in-depth qualitative case studies of sexual violence against sex workers.
